Maybe my reaction might be help. I jumped on this link to see your comments, but I don’t have 40 minutes to watch a video. If you had written down your thoughts I could skim and knuckle down on the key points, then probably understand your thesis.
I’m finding that more and more of the folk I follow or subscribe to are transitioning to video. One of the reasons I came to Substack was that it is/was text based and I could consume the content at my pace, fast or slow depending on how closely I wanted to engage. Video is a time consuming medium, so I’m moving away from some substacks.
Interesting. You mentioned toward the end how free subscriptions have dropped off more significantly than paid. I wonder if the algorithm is somehow de-prioritizing / de-encouraging free subscriptions specifically? I mean, it’s free for us to send emails, so if we’re not generating a significant amount of income for Substack through those emails, then we’re more of a liability to their operations. In that regard, it would make sense to push publications that have a greater potential for network income generation.
yes, at least one person mentioned the follower uptick while everything else plateaus ... I can't help but wonder: what ARE they doing with the recommendation feature... Cheering you on, my friend Amy!

Oh, well I just got to the part where you talk about Substack's spam account sweeps haha.
Fewer subscribers and many more followers and upgrades are rare
