I love the new name. I've been reading your work for a long time, and the role of publisher feels like such a good fit for you. I wouldn't have been able to identify it before perhaps, but as soon as you said it, I felt a full body "yes, of course, that makes so much sense!"

I also changed my newsletter's name. It wasn't voluntary, and I resented it at the time but looking back on it, I'm so glad I did. I workshopped the new name during one of your live calls, and got such great feedback from people. The new name feels more expansive, and most importantly, I feel proud of it.

I'm excited for this next iteration of your work Amanda. 💕

Amanda, this name fits so well & I love the family history connection. This, is, a gem of wisdom I’m going to think about when it comes to my publication: ‘For me, this change isn’t about polish or branding. It’s about belonging. It’s about naming what I already know to be true.’

Love the new name and the evolution/reclamation it represents.

And your announcement comes at a good time for me, as I am considering my own name change, so thank you for leading by example.

I love the new name, how you walk us through your process, and the permission you gracefully offer by sharing. I changed the name of my publication a while ago, and I created so much unnecessary angst over it, when really all I needed was a little time to land. Thank you, Amanda!

Love the new name and what you say here about keeping <spectrum> in the title:

“Publishing online, whether that’s on Substack, or another platform, doesn’t involve just one skill — it’s a range.

Strategy, storytelling, design, data, rhythm, trust.”

Mine started out as Jen Zug Writes for about a year until I changed to what it is now. I just wanted to start writing, and I knew if I waited until I had it all figured out, I would never actually start. I’m so glad I waited for my theme to settle in!

I love this in every way! The Publishing Spectrum makes so much sense for all you offer, and the family legacy just clinches it. Thank you for the mention. I love the fresh bearings of a new name.

Tara, I meant to mention in the comments of your interview with Matthew how much I appreciated your explanation of changing your publication's name. Like Amanda did in this post, you gave us permission to do so without shame, but with freedom.

I love the new name. I've recently renamed mine, too. It was not as subtle as yours, but it felt right. Cheers to changes and staying aligned ☺️🥂

I love this Amanda - and yes, the *publishing* spectrum just totally encapsulates your brilliant work 😍 I just recently renamed my Substack too - the original name was the right one for where I started but now I’m embracing the evolution to bring what I’m doing here more closely into alignment with my identity as a documentary maker (and thinker 😊). Looking forward to joining you for the publishing lab tomorrow. Exciting times!

Amanda, may your wisdom inspire many hesitant bystanders to stop dithering, start publishing and give themselves time to settle on a name that fits their mission.

Love the new name.

I regard myself as being extraordinarily lucky in finding a name for my publication that I've never second guessed and has never been in the way. I wish I could claim that talent had anything to do with it! I was inspired by The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy's entry for planet earth "Mostly harmless." From space, it looks to be Mostly Water, just like the human body!

Thank you, Amanda.

I could have added that the name is the ONLY thing about my pub that I've never second guessed!

The dimensions of this are so huge and it's exciting to watch you plumb the depths!

Love this: "But over time, that name began to feel like a placeholder" I've been feeling the same.
