📣 Substack just unlocked post-level data for every publication
Here’s how to turn it into a Publication Health Report
This week, Substack released post-specific data for your entire publication history.
And I don’t mean to sound dramatic, but this is a big deal, y’all.
There are 42 filters in total and here’s where to find them:
If you want to start pulling the data yourself, I’d prioritize these filters:
Posts that were finished (read all the way through)
Posts that drove annual, monthly or founding subscriptions
Posts that drove the most free trials
Posts that drove the most unsubscribes
This kind of data changes the way we understand the evolution of our writing, our voice and our relationship with our audience on Substack.
It changes the specificity with which we can nurture audiences. It changes how editorial strategies are set.
I know this because 1. I’m a longtime managing editor used to fishing for this kind of data and 2. for more than 18 months, I’ve been working in the nooks and crannies of Substack data and manually treasure hunting for these patterns for clients.
Now, we all have access to a truly bonkers-level of post insights.
And if you feel overwhelmed, I totally understand.
Hand to heart: I’m kind of overwhelmed.
This data gives us so much, and it really will take time to parse it all and make it useful at the editorial and audience-nurturing level.
Here’s where I recommend you start:
The biggest gift this data can reliably give us right away — regardless of how large or small your list is — is the ability to more accurately see the health of your publication. What has happened since you began publishing, what has transformed and what does it mean for where you’re going next?
If you want to see this clearly for your own publication, start here:
Upload your Post CSV into SubSight and generate your Publication Health Report.
→ SubSight turns this raw data into something you can actually use — fast.
When I ran my report this afternoon, SubSight mapped my publication’s evolution from a “confessional” stage into a “professional authority” phase — and highlighted how my last 90 days of posts are reshaping my audience. This level of insight is brand new, and it’s what I want for you, too.
Your data just got a serious upgrade.
Now you need a way to understand it.
→ Upload your Post CSV
→ Generate a Publication Health Report
→ Run a Post Performance Audit
SubSight is available to paid subscribers of The Publishing Spectrum.
📆 P.S. Publishing Mentorship members: Bring your Publication Health Report or the Post Performance Audit to our Office Hours on Monday. Find the URL to join right here.
☀️ Or learn more about the publishing mentorship here — I’d love to welcome you on Monday to our monthly, live group video call.

WOW! You're going to do so well, helping folks with this. I'm thrilled for you and for us. xo
Is this new feature giving more data for Subsight to work with? And do you think it’s worth going ahead and uploading it even if my most recent upload was within the last couple weeks?
